1st XV

The Brecon RFC 1st XV is the elite flagship of our club, currently competing at the highest level of community rugby in the Welsh Premiership. As a standard-bearer for rugby in Mid-Wales, the 1st XV represents the ultimate goal for any player donning the Red, White, and Black. Playing at this level requires a professional mindset, immense physical conditioning, and a relentless drive for silverware, all while maintaining the amateur values that make our town proud.

Who Can Join the 1st XV Squad Entry into the 1st XV is earned through merit, grit, and a commitment to excellence. We are always looking for high-calibre players who have the ambition to test themselves against the best teams in Wales. Whether you are a seasoned Premiership campaigner, a standout talent from our Athletic squad looking to step up, or an elite youngster entering the senior ranks, the 1st XV provides the most competitive platform in the region. To wear the first-team jersey at Parc de Pugh is to join a legacy of foundational Welsh rugby.

Coaching from a British & Irish Lion, The squad is privileged to be led by Head Coach Kris Dacey alongside Adam Powell and Mathew Trowbridge. Kris' professional background at the highest levels of the sport has transformed our tactical approach, bringing a level of detail and intensity to our set-pieces and open play that is second to none. Under Kris's leadership, players receive top-tier technical mentoring, ensuring every individual has the tools to excel in the Premiership environment.

The Premiership Pathway and Professional Standards The 1st XV is the pinnacle of our "one club" philosophy. We operate with a professional edge, utilising video analysis, structured strength and conditioning, and high-tempo game plans. However, we never lose sight of our roots; our pathway remains open and fluid. Standout performers from the Athletic squad and the Youth system are consistently given the opportunity to prove themselves at the Premiership level, ensuring our squad remains bolstered by hungry, local talent who bleed Red, White, and Black.

The Brecon RFC Minis and Juniors section is the heartbeat of our club, providing a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for young athletes to discover the joy of rugby. Based at the historic Parc de Pugh, we pride ourselves on fostering teamwork, discipline, and respect in every player who pulls on the jersey. Age Groups and Who Can Play: Our section caters to a wide range of ages, starting from Under 7s through to Under 16s.

  • Minis (U7–U11): At this level, boys and girls play together in mixed teams. The focus is on tag rugby and basic skills in the early years, gradually introducing contact in a controlled, coached environment.

  • Juniors (U12–U16): As players progress into the Junior ranks, the game evolves into the full XV-a-side format, with a greater emphasis on tactical awareness and positional specialisation.

Player Pathways and Progression: We are committed to a "player-first" philosophy. Brecon RFC serves as a vital feeder club for Cardiff Rugby, meaning our stand-out talents have clear sightlines to regional and even national representative honours. The journey starts in the Minis, moves through the Junior age grades, and culminates in our thriving Youth and Senior XV squads. For girls specifically, we are proud partners of the Red Kites female rugby hub, offering a dedicated pathway for young women to excel in the sport.

Training Days and Times: The majority of our Minis and Juniors activity takes place on Sunday mornings, with training sessions and fixtures typically kicking off at 10:30 AM. To ensure our Junior players stay sharp, many age groups also hold mid-week training sessions under the lights on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings.
